HDFC Regalia Gold Credit Card Review 2026

Executive Summary

HDFC Regalia Gold spent years as one of HDFC Bank's easiest premium cards to justify. After reward reductions, spend-gated lounges, and Boarding Edge, we calculate real returns from ₹3L to ₹7.5L spend.

Updated: October 2026

HDFC Regalia Gold has spent years occupying an awkward but important place in HDFC Bank's credit-card lineup.

It is not cheap enough to be an entry-level rewards card.

It is not premium enough to compete directly with Infinia or Diners Club Black.

Yet for someone spending roughly ₹4–8 lakh a year and travelling a few times annually, Regalia Gold has historically been one of HDFC's easiest premium cards to justify.

That proposition became more complicated in 2026.

HDFC reduced the base reward rate from 4 Reward Points per ₹150 to 5 Reward Points per ₹200 from May 15, 2026.

Then, from July 1, domestic airport lounge access stopped being unconditional: you now need to spend ₹60,000 in the preceding calendar quarter to unlock the next quarter's visits.

At first glance, that sounds like a straightforward devaluation.

But HDFC also added the Boarding Edge programme, while Regalia Gold continues to offer strong spending milestones, international Priority Pass access, 5X rewards at selected brands and SmartBuy acceleration.

So the real question in 2026 is no longer:

“Is Regalia Gold a good card?”

It is:

“Does Regalia Gold still make sense for the way you actually spend?”

For the right user, my answer is still yes.

But it is no longer a card I would recommend blindly.

Base Rewards Were Reduced

Earlier:

4 Reward Points per ₹150

Now:

5 Reward Points per ₹200

At first glance, five points sounds better than four.

It isn't.

The old structure earned roughly:

2.67 Reward Points per ₹100

The new structure earns:

2.50 Reward Points per ₹100

If you redeem each point for ₹0.50 against SmartBuy flights and hotels:

Old effective base reward:

~1.33%

Current effective base reward:

1.25%

The reduction isn't catastrophic, but it matters because base rewards form the foundation of the card.

Domestic Lounge Access Is Now Spend-Gated

Regalia Gold still offers up to:

3 domestic airport lounge visits per calendar quarter

or:

12 visits per year

But from the July–September 2026 quarter onward, you qualify only if you spent:

₹60,000 or more in the preceding calendar quarter.

For example:

To use domestic lounges during October–December, you need at least ₹60,000 of qualifying spend during July–September.

This is probably the biggest practical downgrade for people who kept Regalia Gold mainly as a lounge card.

International Lounge Access Remains Strong

The good news is that Regalia Gold still provides:

6 complimentary international airport lounge visits per calendar year through Priority Pass.

For someone taking two or three international trips annually, this remains one of the card's strongest benefits.

Priority Pass eligibility is separate from the domestic lounge spend condition.

The Base Reward Rate: Good Enough, Not Exciting

Regalia Gold now earns:

5 Reward Points for every ₹200 of eligible retail spend.

That means:

Quick calculation

₹10,000 spend → 250 RP

Quick calculation

₹50,000 spend → 1,250 RP

Quick calculation

₹1 lakh spend → 2,500 RP

How much those points are worth depends entirely on how you redeem them.

This is important because Regalia Gold is not a cashback card.

One Reward Point Is Not Always Worth the Same Amount

HDFC currently provides several redemption options.

RedemptionValue per RP
Exclusive Gold CatalogueUp to ₹0.65
SmartBuy flights & hotels₹0.50
AirmilesUp to 0.5 mile
Products / vouchersUp to ₹0.35
Statement credit₹0.20
Scroll horizontally to view every column.

This is why saying “Regalia Gold gives 1.25% rewards” is only partly correct.

At the commonly used SmartBuy travel value:

Quick calculation

5 RP per ₹200 × ₹0.50 = 1.25%

If you redeem through the Exclusive Gold Catalogue at ₹0.65:

The theoretical value becomes:

1.625%

But catalogue value isn't the same as cash.

You are choosing from specific products rather than receiving ₹0.65 directly into your bank account.

For most people, I would use ₹0.50 per point when calculating the practical value of Regalia Gold.

It is simpler and more realistic for a travel-oriented card.

The 5X Partner Rewards Are Much Better

Regalia Gold continues to offer 5X Reward Points at:

  • Myntra
  • Nykaa
  • Marks & Spencer
  • Reliance Digital

Instead of 5 RP per ₹200, eligible purchases earn:

25 RP per ₹200

At ₹0.50 per point, that is an effective value of:

6.25%

This is one area where Regalia Gold can still produce genuinely strong returns.

For example:

Quick calculation

₹10,000 eligible partner spend → 1,250 RP

Value at ₹0.50/RP:

₹625

That's much better than the 1.25% base return.

The 5X programme has a monthly Reward Point cap across the participating brands, so it isn't unlimited.

But for normal shopping patterns, this remains one of the card's best reward features.

SmartBuy Is Still the Real Regalia Gold Advantage

If you use Regalia Gold like an ordinary credit card and never touch SmartBuy, you're leaving a lot of value on the table.

HDFC currently offers accelerated rewards through SmartBuy across categories such as:

  • flights;
  • hotels;
  • instant vouchers;
  • selected brands.

Hotels can earn up to 10X rewards, while flights and instant vouchers can earn accelerated rates depending on the current SmartBuy structure.

This is where Regalia Gold starts behaving less like a basic 1.25% rewards card and more like a travel/rewards ecosystem card.

But there is a catch:

You actually have to use the ecosystem.

If you dislike portals, voucher purchases, milestone tracking and reward optimisation, there are simpler cashback credit cards.

The Milestones Are Why ₹4–7.5 Lakh Spend Matters

Regalia Gold becomes much more interesting once your annual spending crosses certain levels.

₹1.5 Lakh per Calendar Quarter

Spend:

₹1.5 lakh in a calendar quarter

and you can unlock a:

₹1,500 voucher

from the eligible milestone-voucher selection.

If you hit this in all four quarters:

₹6,000 annual voucher value

₹5 Lakh Annual Spend

Spend:

₹5 lakh in the anniversary year

and receive:

₹5,000 SmartBuy flight voucher

₹7.5 Lakh Annual Spend

Reach:

₹7.5 lakh

and receive an additional:

₹5,000 flight voucher

So someone spending ₹7.5 lakh can potentially unlock:

₹10,000 of annual flight vouchers

plus:

up to ₹6,000 of quarterly milestone vouchers

before even counting normal Reward Points.

That is why judging Regalia Gold only by its 1.25% base reward rate misses the point.

What Does Regalia Gold Actually Return at Different Spend Levels?

Let's use a conservative calculation where normal spending earns base rewards and Reward Points are valued at ₹0.50 each.

We are not including SmartBuy accelerators, 5X partner spending, lounge value, Boarding Edge or welcome memberships.

₹3 Lakh Annual Spend

Base Reward Points:

Quick calculation

₹3,00,000 ÷ ₹200 × 5 = 7,500 RP

Travel value:

₹3,750

You don't reach the ₹4 lakh fee-waiver threshold.

So unless you receive the card under an LTF or special offer, ₹3 lakh isn't the spend level where Regalia Gold is most compelling.

₹4 Lakh Annual Spend

Base RP:

10,000 RP

Travel value:

₹5,000

More importantly, you unlock the:

renewal fee waiver

That is where Regalia Gold begins making more sense as a long-term card.

₹5 Lakh Annual Spend

Base RP:

Quick calculation

12,500 RP = ₹6,250

Annual flight milestone:

₹5,000

Total before quarterly milestone vouchers:

₹11,250

Effective value:

2.25%

If you strategically distribute the ₹5 lakh so that you cross ₹1.5 lakh in three calendar quarters, you could also unlock:

₹4,500 of quarterly vouchers

Taking total value to:

₹15,750

or roughly:

3.15%

before SmartBuy acceleration, lounges and Boarding Edge.

This is why spend distribution matters on Regalia Gold.

₹6 Lakh Annual Spend

If you spend ₹1.5 lakh in each quarter:

Base rewards:

Quick calculation

15,000 RP = ₹7,500

Quarterly milestone vouchers:

₹6,000

₹5 lakh flight milestone:

₹5,000

Total:

₹18,500

Effective value:

~3.08%

Again, this excludes accelerated rewards.

₹7.5 Lakh Annual Spend

Base rewards:

Quick calculation

18,750 RP = ₹9,375

Quarterly vouchers:

up to ₹6,000

₹5 lakh flight voucher:

₹5,000

₹7.5 lakh additional flight voucher:

₹5,000

Total:

₹25,375

Effective value:

~3.38%

And this is before:

  • 5X partner rewards;
  • SmartBuy acceleration;
  • lounge visits;
  • Boarding Edge;
  • dining discounts.

That is why I still think Regalia Gold can work well in the ₹5–7.5 lakh spending band.

Boarding Edge Is an Underrated 2026 Addition

This is one of the most interesting additions HDFC made while reducing the base reward rate.

Regalia Gold cardholders can upload an eligible boarding pass through the SmartBuy portal and choose:

any 2 Boarding Edge benefits per calendar quarter.

The current options include:

  • complimentary spa;
  • airport transfer;
  • complimentary buffet at participating hotels/restaurants;
  • hotel room upgrade.

For someone travelling regularly, this is useful.

It's also a benefit that doesn't fit neatly into a percentage reward calculation.

If you never fly, it is worthless.

If you travel several times a year and would have paid for airport transfers or dining anyway, it can meaningfully improve the card's value.

Lounge Access: Still Good, but No Longer a Free Lunch

The domestic lounge programme looks excellent on paper:

12 visits per year

But remember the ₹60,000 previous-quarter spend requirement.

So someone keeping Regalia Gold in a drawer and using it only at airports may no longer qualify.

For a person using Regalia Gold as their primary card and spending ₹20,000+ a month, the requirement is relatively easy.

For an occasional user, it isn't.

International lounge access is stronger because the six annual Priority Pass visits remain an important travel benefit.

This makes Regalia Gold much more attractive for someone taking international trips than for someone whose only goal is domestic lounge access.

Forex: 2% Is Decent, but Not Best-in-Class Anymore

Regalia Gold currently charges:

2% forex markup

That is lower than the 3%–3.5% commonly charged on many mainstream cards.

But India now has several credit cards offering:

So I would no longer choose Regalia Gold primarily as an international-spending card.

It works.

It is reasonably priced.

But it isn't the category leader.

Avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion

HDFC also applies a:

1.75% Dynamic Currency Conversion markup

on applicable international transactions processed in INR.

So if you're travelling abroad and a merchant asks:

“Would you like to pay in INR?”

my preference would generally be:

No — choose the local currency.

Let the card network perform the currency conversion rather than accepting Dynamic Currency Conversion.

The 2% forex markup may still apply, but DCC can introduce another unnecessary layer of cost.

The Welcome Benefits Are Better Than the Old Article Suggested

The standard joining fee is:

₹2,500 + GST

HDFC currently states that customers paying the joining fee receive a gift voucher equivalent to the ₹2,500 fee amount, subject to the applicable offer.

Separately, spending:

₹1 lakh within the first 90 days

unlocks:

  • Swiggy One membership;
  • MMT Black Gold membership.

These are nice additions, but I would not apply for the card purely for the welcome package.

The long-term value matters more.

Dining Is Another Small Plus

Regalia Gold currently offers up to:

20% savings through Swiggy Dineout

at participating restaurants, subject to the applicable offer structure.

Again, this isn't enough to justify the card by itself.

But it helps build a broader lifestyle proposition around travel, dining and rewards.

Who Should Get Regalia Gold in 2026?

I think Regalia Gold makes the most sense for someone who:

  • spends at least ₹4 lakh annually;
  • ideally spends ₹5–7.5 lakh;
  • travels multiple times a year;
  • values six international lounge visits;
  • can naturally hit the ₹60,000 quarterly lounge condition;
  • uses SmartBuy;
  • shops at the 5X partner brands;
  • prefers travel rewards over straightforward cashback.

This is exactly the type of user who can extract much more than the headline 1.25% base reward rate.

Who Should Skip It?

I wouldn't choose Regalia Gold if:

  • annual spend is below ₹3–4 lakh;
  • you mainly want cashback;
  • you don't use airport lounges;
  • you never use SmartBuy;
  • you don't want to track milestones;
  • most of your spending falls into excluded/non-rewarding categories;
  • you want the best possible forex card.

For that user, a simpler cashback card can easily be better.

Is Regalia Gold Worth the ₹2,500 Fee?

If you're actually paying the renewal fee every year because your spending remains below ₹4 lakh:

probably not.

₹2,500 + GST is a meaningful fee for a card earning only 1.25% at the normal SmartBuy travel redemption value.

But if you're spending more than ₹4 lakh:

the renewal fee disappears.

And once you move towards ₹5 lakh or ₹7.5 lakh, the milestone benefits start doing a lot of the work.

That's the real Regalia Gold sweet spot.

Final Verdict

Is HDFC Regalia Gold still worth getting in 2026?

Yes — but for a narrower audience than before.

Regalia Gold was devalued in 2026. The base reward rate is lower, domestic lounge access now requires a ₹60,000 quarterly spend, and zero-forex travel cards have made the 2% forex markup less impressive than it once was. But the card has essentially changed how it needs to be used: it is now much more of a milestone + SmartBuy + travel-benefits card than a simple everyday rewards card.

The ideal Regalia Gold user is someone spending at least ₹4 lakh a year, preferably ₹5–7.5 lakh, who travels regularly and is willing to use HDFC SmartBuy.

At those spending levels:

  • the annual fee can be waived;
  • milestone vouchers start adding meaningful value;
  • Priority Pass remains useful;
  • quarterly lounge access becomes achievable;
  • SmartBuy and 5X rewards can materially improve the effective return.

For a low-spending user or someone who wants simple cashback, look elsewhere. Regalia Gold is no longer a card you get because it is “premium.” It is a card you get because your spending pattern fits its milestones. And if it does, the card still earns its place in HDFC Bank's premium lineup.
